Completing the Square
From the previous examples and videos rewrite and organize the four steps below to show the correct sequence for completing the square without using tiles. Feel free to add more specific steps if you would like.
- Divide all terms by \(a\) (the coefficient of \(x\)).
- Write the quadratic in standard form.
- Complete the square on the left side of the equation and balance this by adding the same value to the right side of the equation.
- Move the number term (\(c/a\)) to the right side of the equation
