Rational Expressions

Putting it all together

For the following rational expressions:

  1. Determine the domain of the expression.
  2. Simplify the expression, if possible.
  3. Evaluate the expression for the values given.
  1. \(\dfrac{x^2+3x-4}{x^2-x-20}\), evaluate for \(x=-3,\, 0, \, 3\)
  2. \(\dfrac{x^2-25}{5x-x^2}\), evaluate for \(x=1, \, 3, \, 4\)
  3. \(\dfrac{x^2-16}{x^2-x-12}\), evaluate for \(x=-4, \, 0, \, 3\)
