Computation on a Number Line

One way to find the sums for each of the following addition problems is to use a number line.

  1. \(10+23=\)
  2. \(1+1.3=\)
  3. \(0.8+1.7=\)

Think about the different strategies that could be used to find these sums. What strategy would you use? How many ways can you find to add them?

Use a number line to show the sums. Why might a number line be a good tool for these problems?
