POLQ 2 | Lesson 2 | Practice (Application of Completing the Square) Solutions

  1. \(x^2+y^2+6x-4y-3 = 0\)

 \(x^2+6x+y^2-4y = 3\)

     \(x^2+6x+9+y^2-4y+4 = 3+9+4\)

 \((x+3)^2+(y-2)^2 = 16\)

∴ center is at \((-3, 2)\) and radius is 4

  1. center at \((1, 4)\) and radius is 3

\((x-1)^2+(y-4)^2 = 9\)

\(x^2-2x+1+y^2-8y+16 = 9\)

\(x^2+y^2-2x-8y+8=0\)
