LINR 1 | Lesson 3 | Explore (A Linear Situation)

Explore A Linear Situation

You and your friend walk across campus to class.  You start at the library, which is at an elevation five feet above the center of campus.  As you walk to your next class, you lose 2-feet in elevation per minute.   Do these problems and find the answers in the next section, Try This!

  1. Write an equation to model this situation.  Let \(x\) represent the number of minutes that you have been walking and let \(y\) represent your current elevation.

  2. What is your elevation after 15 minutes of walking?

  3. Interpret your solution in terms of this situation’s context.
