POLQ 2 | Lesson 3 | Standards

Core Content Standards

CCSS.Math.Content.HSA.REI.A.2 Solve simple rational and radical equations in one variable, and give examples showing how extraneous solutions may arise.

CCSS.Math.Content.HSA.REI.B.4.b Solve quadratic equations by inspection (e.g., for \(x^2 = 49\)), taking square roots, completing the square, the quadratic formula and factoring, as appropriate to the initial form of the equation. Recognize when the quadratic formula gives complex solutions and write them as \(a \pm bi\) for real numbers \(a\) and \(b\).

Related Standards

CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.A.2 Use square root and cube root symbols to represent solutions to equations of the form \(x^2 = p\) and \(x^3 = p\), where \(p\) is a positive rational number. Evaluate square roots of small perfect squares and cube roots of small perfect cubes. Know that \(\sqrt{2}\) is irrational.

Standards for Mathematical Practice

CCSS.Math.Practice.MP1 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

CCSS.Math.Practice.MP7 Look for and make use of structure.

CCSS.Math.Practice.MP8 Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
