# Transformations and Parent Functions

In the last lesson, we explored and learned about the difference between a function and a relation as well as took a closer look at one function, the quadratic function.  In this lesson, we are going to continue that focus on the the quadratic function and how the graphs and the equation are related and how to write the equations based on given characteristics that can be applied to them and other functions as well.

To begin with, watch the following video and notice how certain aspects effect all functions as transformations are appplied to different functions. Also, take notice of the similarities and differences of the parent functions.

What did you notice after watching the video of the similarities and differences of how parent functions are transformed in the coordinate plane?  What about in the equations?

Keep these questions in mind as we begin to dig deeper in the graphing of quadratic functions in particular.
